It's time to get moving! Exercise is a key component to living a healthy, well-balanced life. The likelihood that you will need to have a lap band procedure, or weight loss surgery, decreases dramatically if you maintain a healthy exercise regimen.

Nearly all individuals who go on a specialized or promoted diet lose various amounts of weight only to put up to two thirds of the weight they lost back on within a year.

And studies have shown that within five years nearly all persons who have gone on a specialized commercial diet regain all of the weight they lost during the diet and most often have added to their weight, making them heavier than they were even before they initiated their diet.

Before we divulge some great places to get moving in Utah, here are a few simple ways you can increase the amount of physical activity you do. Some simple decisions, such as choosing the stairs at work instead of the elevator do not take a lot of time out of your day, but are the starting blocks of a healthy lifestyle.

While your body is important, the mind is where it all starts. Yoga is one of the few exercises that takes you deed into a pondering mode where you will be able to distress and actually increase you well-being. It also teaches an awareness of your body and surroundings. Yoga can be a great exercise for those with anxiety and depression because it helps release negative emotions and helps clear your mind.

Here are some great locations to get closer to Mother Nature and further away from bariatric surgery. The peak of Mount Timpanogos is one of the tallest in the entire state, with an elevation of 11,752 feet. Unless you are an experienced winter climber, it's best to hike this trail in the late spring, summer or early fall. The hike is about 14 miles round trip-so be prepared. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen.

But it is the change of diet to wholesome foods that are rich in nutrients and vitamins, such as vegetables, grains, and fruits, that will do the most overall good for a person. Even if weight loss is not immediate or drastic, eating a healthier diet will promote overall health in the body and make a person feel better about their personal appearance.

The second largest fresh-water lake in Utah, Bear Lake, lies along the Idaho-Utah border. Be sure to bring the whole family to enjoy the turquoise blue waters along the nearby mountains. This is a great summer destination to really enjoy nature while being active. With two beaches, and a number of marinas, it's a great location for swimming, fishing, wakeboarding, or water skiing.

Regular exercise can be anything, done regularly, that promotes activity in the body. Playing sports, swimming, going to the racket ball court, hiking, or just simple walks around the local park can give the body the regular exercise it needs to stay healthy when coupled with a healthier diet.

On the whole, exercise is a great short-term and long-term benefit; you can feel better by enjoying the natural beauty of Utah with friends and family, while increasing your overall mood. You can also ward off serious chronic disease, which could result in a visit to Dr. Alfonso Preciado for lap band surgery, through regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight.
